A basset hound was the main character on the 1950's NBC sitcom "The People's Choice" and Lassie's friend Pokey was a basset hound. On "Columbo" the detective owned a basset hound named Dog. The bumbling sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane from "The Dukes of Hazzard" had a basset hound named Flash. Other TV bassets can be seen in "Coach", "Judging Amy" and "That's So Raven".
#11 The Basset Hound is a medium-sized, short-legged breed that belongs to the scent hound group. It is characterized by excellent nose performance, deliberate tracking and endurance.
#12 The breed was originally developed by monks in France in the late 16th century to hunt rabbits and hares, where their exceptional ability to follow scents through thick foliage was their most prized trait.
