A rescue team led by S. M. Chen and Matgo Lowe searched for and bought the surviving dogs and sent them to Hong Kong to restore the breed.

#8 In Hong Kong, Matgo Lowe founded Down Homes, the world’s first Chinese Sharpei nursery.

#9 In 1978, the Shar Pei achieved the dubious privilege to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the rarest dog in the world
