All About Insects: Locust (17 Pics)

#13 The invasion of the pack cannot go unnoticed.

The sound of approaching is like a thunderclap.

#14 Even a small flock can cause significant damage to the farm, sweeping away everything that is in its path.

In search of food, they can move more than 150 km per day. Several cases of flight of flocks across the seas and oceans were recorded, and this is not one thousand kilometers.

#15 The male initiates reproduction, which exudes a hormone that attracts the female. Mating lasts 14 hours.

Laying occurs mainly in late summer or autumn. Eggs are laid in a small depression, and a special secret liquid fills in the gaps, forming solid protection. As a result, a capsule is formed. Locusts die after about 3 clutches.

In a tropical climate, it can lay egg-pods throughout the year, about 5-7 times.

For one clutch, the female produces about 100 eggs. After wintering, the larvae hatch. They are very similar to the adult locust. The main difference is the lack of wings. These insects develop in 1.5 months.

In a hot strip, development takes only 2 weeks without interruption for the winter.
