Blue Great Dane Dog Breed Information

Great Danes are real giants among the canines. Height is the main distinguishing feature of these dogs. But with the right angle, a blue tint and incredible gracefulness of movements appear.

Blue Dane: Coat Color

The pet’s coat, like that of its relatives with other shades of wool, is short and devoid of undercoat. Such an animal can live exclusively at home, as it does not tolerate high and low temperatures.

The pet’s color can be completely blue or diluted with small white spots on the dog’s chest and legs. Judges at competitions and shows carefully monitor the purity of the breed and the correct color.

Blue Great Dane: Temperament

Like all Great Dane dogs, the blue pet is incredibly friendly and very affectionate. They selflessly adore their master and all members of the family in which they live. These are very tactful and understanding dogs, they will not insist on active games and a long walk if the owner is tired or sick.

Great Danes in the house are almost invisible. Like cats, they curl up in a ball and can sleep for hours without being active. At the same time, they are excellent guards and are wary of all strangers.

Great Danes: Other Coat Colors

According to the standard approved by the international canine federations, there are only 5 acceptable colors of Great Danes. Among them there is blue.

Breeding of Great Danes of the following color is also allowed:

brindle (spectacular gray or black stripes on a red background, the animal attracts the eyes of others not only by its height but also by the shade of its coat);

fawn (reddish shade of wool, lighter or darker, such pets are considered classics of the breed);

black (coal-dark pets or dogs with small white spots on the chest and toes);

marbled (an animal of white color with large black spots all over the body, characterized by ragged edges).

The rest of the colors are considered non-standard and are not allowed to participate in exhibition activities. Among the non-standard Great Danes, gray marble shades of coat are considered. This is the same marble, but the spots are located on the gray coat. Despite the showiness of this color, they are not allowed to participate in breeding.

There are also black and white Great Danes, which are also similar to marbled ones, but they have too large black spots that have even edges and are located more on the rump and chest of the animal. The showy exterior does not make the dog meet the standard. Such pets will not be able to participate in breeding.

Also, completely white Great Danes are especially honored by breed lovers. These are stately and beautiful animals. However, they are often susceptible to various genetic diseases and are often deaf from birth. That is why they are not used for an exhibition career and further mating.

Great Dane, despite the shade of coat, are ideal companions and guards. They feel great in a big house and do not require activity from the owner if this is not possible at a certain moment. They are friendly and can become a pet even in a family with small children.
