Breed Review: Dogo Argentino (18 Pics)

#7 The history of the creation of this breed is very interesting, the idea and its implementation belongs to Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez.

Initially, the idea was to create a dog that is maximally adapted for heavy physical exertion, ideally suited for hunting, I must say the breed meets the stated criteria as much as possible.

At the time when the idea of creating a new breed appeared, Martinez was only 18 years old. For the basics, he took a dog of the Cordoba breed, which was very physically strong, healthy, and hardy, and this is what the doctor needed.

In addition, many of Antonio's friends had a dog of this particular breed, which means that he was well acquainted with it. The Cordoba dog was ideal for hunting, which was a decisive factor.

Martinez studied dogs of this breed for a long time before starting work on breeding a new breed, he even called cord dogs canine gladiators.

The efforts of Antoni Martinez were crowned with success in the 1920s, it was then that he managed to breed a new breed of dogs - the Dogo Argentino.

To do this, he had to do a great job, he crossed an incredible number of different breeds of dogs, ranging from the Cordova and ending with the great Pyrenees.

As a result, he achieved his goal - he brought out an incredibly powerful, hardy, muscular dog, ideal for hunting.

#8 Argentina recognized the new breed as national in 1964, at the same time the dog was approved by the Kennel Federation of Argentina, nine years later the Dogo Argentino passed the FCI certification.

#9 The breed became much more famous in the world only after the Austrian dog handler Otto Schimf came to Argentina in the 70s and personally got acquainted with the representatives of the breed.

He was fascinated by the incredible musculature, strength and endurance of the dogs.
