The Bukovyna Shepherd Dog (Caine Ciobanesc de Bucovina) is a strong, large, rough-in build. For many centuries she was the best helper and companion of the Romanian shepherds in the Carpathian Mountains. The main task of the dog was to guard and protect herds from predators and intruders. The Bucovina Shepherd Dog is also appreciated for its balanced temperament and love for children, which made it possible to keep them in urban conditions as guards and companions. There are three varieties of Romanian Shepherd Dogs: Mioritic (formerly known as Barac), Karpatin (formerly known as Zăvod), and Bukovina Sheepdog.

The Bucovina Shepherd Dog was bred to protect herds of sheep and cattle in mountain pastures. They are excellent guard dogs. Balanced, calm, very loyal, loves children. They are distrustful of strangers. These are excellent guard dogs, courageous, fighting in relation to wild animals. When animals or strangers approach the protected area, they signal with a loud, really powerful bark. During the night, they patrol the area around the herd or dwelling. Adult Bukovina Shepherd Dogs need movement, they need enough space to walk.
