Caucasian Shepherd Dog

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog came to the former Federal Republic of Germany in the 1960s. Used as a guard dog, in particular, patrolled the area along the Berlin Wall. In 1989, due to the fact that the Berlin Wall was destroyed, 7000 guard dogs were dismissed. Many dogs were given to the families of ordinary German citizens. When breeding this breed, attention was paid to such a quality as obedience. The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is one of the largest breeds in the world, even larger than the Tibetan Mastiff. Used as a herding guard dog.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is an energetic, intelligent, strong-willed guard dog. On the one hand, they are very attached and love their family members. On the other hand, active defensiveness and strong territorial instinct make the dog extremely suspicious of strangers or other dogs. Calm and balanced, they will not hesitate to rush to protect their family from danger – real or perceived. All the senses are quite well developed in the Caucasian Shepherd Dogs; they are alert and have a fairly sharp visual perception. Any change in their environment can lead to warning barking and growling, especially at night. Caucasian Shepherd Dogs grow up slowly, and natural stubbornness and independence make training difficult. This dog needs early socialization since by nature they are aggressive towards strangers and animals. The balanced character of the dog and the professional approach of the handler will make the dog manageable. This breed is hardy and adapted to different climatic conditions.
