It is hard to imagine that alligators can survive in cold weather. It turns out they can! Photo confirmation published by Shallotte River Swamp Park in North Carolina, USA. Since they cannot get warm, the reptiles have learned to fall into suspended animation. They stick their nose out of the reservoir, causing the temperature to drop. And in this position they freeze into the ice, their vital activity is suspended, breathing becomes very slow, the metabolism almost freezes. Alligators can stay in this position for a very long time and calmly wait until the pond thaws.
