The Dandy Dinmont Terrier is a small breed of Scottish dog from the terrier family. It has a very long body, short legs, and a characteristic “cap” of hair on the head. It is believed that the main character of Walter Scott, Dandy Dinmont from the novel “Guy Manning”, thanks to which the dog got its name, was written from the image of James Davidson, the “father” of the modern dandy Dinmont terrier breed. Davidson’s dogs are descendants of the first terriers, which were owned by several families, including the piper Allan from Northumberland.
The chest is well developed and drooping between the forelegs. Ribs well sprung and well sprung. The body block is long, strong, and flexible. The back is rather low in the shoulders, with a slight deflection and a slight gradual decline from the highest point of the arched loin to the base of the tail.
Cheerful, loving, independent, lively, determined, sociable.
