The Boykin Spaniel breed was developed in the United States as a versatile small-sized hunting dog. Due to its slowness and agility, it perfectly combines the abilities of a scarecrow dog and a retriever. Lop-eared, intelligent, with a strong build and a friendly wagging tail, it is a member of the spaniel family.
Not too compact, with a solid build. The length of the body (proportions measured from the front of the chest to the point of the buttocks) is slightly longer than the height. The chest is well developed. The back is strong, straight, and even. Ribs oval, well sprung. The loin is short, muscular, and slightly arched. The slightly rounded croup merges smoothly into the base of the tail.
Boykin Spaniels are smart, friendly, diligent at work, and easy to train. They love to interact with people, children, and other dogs and have a keen interest in the field hunting. Excessive aggressiveness or shyness towards other dogs should be severely punished.
