Due to many years of selection and separation of the show class, the hunting instincts of dogs have become slightly dull. The winner's laurels were passed to other breeds (in particular, the Breton Epanyola). Despite this, the "English" is still used as gun dogs, but more and more often they are turned on as friendly and active companions who know how to brighten up the most monotonous everyday life.
#11 The English Setter is a medium-sized breed.
Sexual dimorphism is clearly traced in these dogs: females look more graceful and refined than males. However, in both cases, the setters are distinguished by a well-proportioned and lean build.
The breed standard defines the parameters of the animals. So, the height of the dog at the withers reaches 65-68 cm, the bitch - 61-65 cm. The weight of the English setter is 25-36 kg and 20-32 kg, respectively. Males are heavier and more massive.

Moreover, its length coincides with the length from the stop to the back of the head (square type). Well filled under the eyes. The transition from the forehead to the straight-backed nose is distinct. The flat cheeks of the setter are almost invisible. The movable nose has wide nostrils - the main advantage of a hunting dog - it is pigmented in a black or brown shade. The lips fit snugly to the jaws, while the upper overhangs slightly over the lower. Wrinkles form in the corners of the mouth, but the mucous membrane is not exposed. The color of the border of the lips is the same as the color.
