Feeding Your Dog: How To Feed a Pug

Feeding a pug is a serious matter because these dogs have a very sensitive gastrointestinal tract. You can feed your pug with both natural food and dry food.

Feeding your Pug with Natural Food

Just because you prefer organic food doesn’t mean you can feed your pugs with scraps. This approach is absolutely unacceptable! It is also difficult to formulate a balanced diet correctly.

The tendency to obesity dictates its own rules: feed pugs according to the regime, at the same time.

There should always be a bowl of clean water.

Food should be warm (not hot or cold) and not runny.

Pug meat is given raw without salt. Better to give preference to beef or poultry.

Steamed vegetables can be lightly salted.

Prohibited foods for a pug:

  • sugar,
  • sweets,
  • pork,
  • spices,
  • smoked meats,
  • sausages,
  • salty,
  • fatty,
  • roast,
  • flour products,
  • mayonnaise,
  • cream,
  • raw egg white.

Feeding your Pug Puppy

Pug puppies at the age of 1 – 3 months are fed 5 times a day. They can be pampered with cottage cheese, kefir or yogurt, stewed vegetables. For a change, you can offer fruits, dried fruits, well-boiled buckwheat or rice porridge, a slice of black bread with butter, quail, or chicken yolk. Meat is served for lunch and dinner.

Pug puppies at the age of 3-7 months can eat a lot, and this is normal – they grow rapidly. The number of feeds per day for a pug puppy has been reduced to four. Acceptable products: kefir, yogurt, cottage cheese, vegetables (in any form), fruits, dried fruits, quail eggs, meat (lean: beef, poultry, rabbit), boiled fish.

A 7-month-old pug puppy can eat 3 times a day and then cut it down to 2 times. Serve any of the above foods in the morning, except meat. In the evening, on the contrary, give meat or fish.

After a year, the pugs are transferred to adult food.

Feeding your Pug with Dry Food

If you prefer feeding the pug with dry food, you need to choose it carefully and focus on quality, it will be useful to consult a veterinarian. Choose premium or super-premium products, consider the pug’s age, body condition, and activity level.

Do not mix different feeds, add vitamins and mineral supplements to dry feed.

Dry pug food is not filled with boiling water. Granules can be soaked with kefir or yogurt.

It is not necessary to alternate feeding the pug with dry and natural food.

On the feed of another company, the pet is transferred 7 to 10 days. The transfer of a pug from dry food to natural food will take 5 – 15 days.

If you decide to change your diet, carefully monitor your dog’s reactions and well-being.
