The Puli breed was developed in the 10th century AD. She is one of the best Hungarian herding breeds. Shepherds are said to even consider these dogs to be their offspring. In Hungary, the breed was used as a herding dog due to its very high obedience and easy dog training. Marza often viewed these dogs as equal partners, especially in the evenings, when it was necessary to herd the flock of sheep back to the stall. The Puli is a medium-sized, compact, broad dog with very regular body symmetry. They are very determined, alert, and active. A very noticeable and conspicuous characteristic of the breed is its shaggy coat and unique swiftness, which allows them to zealously carry out the work of protecting flocks in the Hungarian plains. Agility, strong mind, and body – these are the qualities that help Puli dogs to successfully carry out their work for ten centuries.
General Description: Pulik are very sturdy dogs, with a practically square figure, well balanced, of medium size. The most memorable characteristic is their shaggy coat; along with a very quiet gait, the running characteristics make this breed very useful in the conditions of the Hungarian high-grass plains. Stable agility, sharp mind, and strong body – these are the characteristics that allow you to successfully carry out long work of protecting the herd. The proportions and structure of the body: height characteristics are measured from the ground to the withers of the dog, 43.2 cm is considered ideal for males of this breed, 40.6 cm for bitches. Small deviations to the higher or lower side are not considered a flaw. The distances from the ground to the withers, as well as from the shoulders to the pelvis, are approximately equal, so the shape of the body of dogs of this breed is close to the correct square. Bone size varies.
Pulik are very kind and intelligent dogs, very friendly by nature, which makes them excellent companions for the owner. At the same time, such traits as sensitivity and distrust make them excellent guards. Intense fear can affect the quality of service for a given breed of dog.
