The dog itself is small, active, and alert all the time. The outline is straight, the length of the body is slightly longer than the height at the withers. The dog is cheerful and self-confident, extremely intelligent, shuns strangers. Although it belongs to the hound breed, it has never been used as a hunting dog. The Tibetan Spaniel often referred to as the “sleeve” dog, comes from the Himalayan regions of Tibet and is the oldest Chinese breed of dog whose past is shrouded in mystery. The dog was presented to the royal person from the Qing dynasty, thus presenting this breed in the palace. By nature, the dog is independent and self-confident. Good companions come out of it.
The head is small in proportion to the body, set proudly. More masculine in males, but not coarse. The eyes are dark brown, oval in shape, bright and expressive, medium in size, set wide enough, but looking forward, make the dog look like a monkey. The eye rims should be black. The disadvantages are large, protruding, eyes, light eyes, the mean expression of the eyes. The ears are medium, drooping, rather fluffy in adult dogs, and set high.
The dog is cheerful and self-confident, extremely intelligent, shuns strangers. Easily gets along with children. She makes a good house dog.
Country of origin is TIBET. UK has now accepted breed as their country of origin since China took over Tibet! Delightful breed -can be any colour, undershot bite but with sufficient chin to not show the teeth.
Thank you for clarifying the country of origin. No matter what China says, Tibet is still Tibet and these little dogs come from TIBET. We have a re-homed Tibbie and everywhere I have read since she came into our very fortunate lives, that the breed is supposed to be aloof with strangers. No-one told Lolha! She just loves all and sundry. We just love her…she is the sweetest and gentlest wee girl!
