The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent working dog with strong herding and guarding instincts. She is a devoted companion, and thanks to her endurance and tirelessness, she can work all day long. It is a well-balanced dog, slightly longer than tall, of medium size and bone, with a color offering variety and personality. She is attentive and lively, lithe and agile, strong and muscular without clumsiness. She has a coat of medium length and harshness. She has a docked or natural tail.
The body is strong and muscular. A dog with a straight back, strong, square format. The chest is deep and strong, with well-sprung ribs. Seen from above, the loin is strong and broad. The bottom line forms a moderate curve. The croup is slightly sloping, with an ideal angle of 30 degrees. The tail is straight, not more than 4 inches in length, naturally short or docked.
The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent, active dog with a balanced temperament, good-natured, rarely quarrelsome. At the first meeting, she can be a little restrained. Any manifestation of shyness, fear, or aggression should be severely punished.
