This terrier variety was named after the village where it was bred – Patterdale. The main purpose was hunting. The locals of Great Britain make their living by catching foxes, badgers, whose fur is still valued today. The hunting terrier breed helped them in their work. The dogs were great for the locals. There was no emphasis on appearance, the breeders did not need a decorative, practical, working breed.
