The Patterdale Terrier was bred in the UK in the mid-20th century for livestock protection and hunting. Its ancestor is a black fell terrier. They are so closely related and so similar that some amateurs confuse them, mixing names and characteristics.
The Patterdale Terrier is a true hunter, a dog with a lively temperament and impressive working qualities. In the 1960s, it was considered one of the best breeds for catching burrowing animals in the rugged terrain of Northern England.
#1 The name comes from the eponymous village of Patterdale, located in the northern part of Britain.

#2 The first “breeders” were peasants and farmers who needed a quick and dexterous assistant in the hunt.

#3 For these needs, a small dog was required, which it would not be necessary to maintain.
