Graceful, thin-legged, at the same time strong and hardy – the appearance of this dog leaves no doubt about its belonging to the family of greyhounds. Whippets are capable of speeds up to 60 km / h. In the past a hunter, now the Whippet mostly plays the role of a companion dog, which, with its character, makes it an excellent family dog.
#1 Whippets are the fastest domesticated animals of their weight. They can get up to breakneck speeds of 35 mph, thanks in part to their unique running style.
#2 “Whip it,” is an old English phrase, meaning to go swiftly, specifically referring to riders whipping their horses to move more quickly.
#3 Another theory is the name is a misspelling of “wappet,” a small yipping dog.
I think one of my Whippets has this condition. She is very strong and her muscles are obvious. She is pure Whippet. Both parents were AKC certified. I did not certify them because I wanted companions. My most current Whippet I got as a pup. That was an exercise. I normally get my Whippets from breeders that had been keeping them for a few years. They do all of the training. This puppy, I had to do more training than normal. I love Whippets.
