History

Golden Retrievers were bred in the 19th century in Great Britain. Their ancestors are believed to be Tweed Water Spaniels and Flatcoated Retrievers, which in turn are descended from the Setter and Newfoundland. Bloodhounds also took part in the selection.

Initially, the breed was used as a hunting dog, but intelligent and versatile dogs very quickly mastered completely different directions. Today, Retrievers are adorable and loyal companions, nannies, rescuers, healers, psychologists, police officers – and just superheroes in the canine world.
The breed was officially recognized in 1913.
