Pomeranian Stomach Problems

Stomach bubbling, which is a sign of flatulence in a dog, often occurs in the Pomeranian breed. In this case, the owner needs to have an idea of how to properly help his pet. An experienced veterinarian will be able to draw up the correct treatment and prescribe the necessary medications, as well as prescribe a special diet.

Pomeranian Dog: Bloated or Upset Stomach

If the sounds of bubbling are heard from the dog’s belly and it behaves restlessly, this is a sure sign of flatulence. This is the accumulation of excess gas in the dog’s intestines, most often caused by the improper selection of foods in the diet, as well as an improper diet of the dog.

Important! Flatulence in itself is not too dangerous for a pet and is easy to cure. But it can become a sign of a more dangerous disease that develops in the dog’s gastrointestinal tract.

If the dog grumbles a little in the stomach 1 – 2 times a day and there is no periodicity, most likely the animal does not have any special stomach problems. But if this happens regularly, and various symptoms also join, for example, nausea or diarrhea, you should immediately sound the alarm and urgently visit a veterinarian.

Causes of Flatulence in a Dog’s Intestines

The gas build-up in the intestines is a natural process. But when this happens all the time, the dog gets some discomfort or even painful sensations that are difficult to cope with.

The causes of flatulence can be:

overeating (excessive absorption of food that does not have time to be digested by natural bacteria);

genetic predisposition (some dogs suffer from weak stomach and intestines, resulting in excess gas formation);

unbalanced diet (improper feeding often leads to the formation of gas in the intestines);

a quick transition to another type of feeding (a sharp transition, for example, from dry food to natural food, often leads to such consequences);

food that is not suitable for the dog (fatty, spicy and sweet foods can disrupt the normal functioning of the digestive tract);

pathology (various diseases can cause a similar symptom).

This condition in dogs can be observed in a state of excitement. In females, the owners often notice a rumbling in the abdomen during estrus or pregnancy. As a rule, these reasons do not pose any special problems and disappear very quickly.

How to Eliminate the Bubbling in the Stomach of the Pomeranian?

Veterinarians strongly insist to show the animal to a specialist. Do not self-medicate, as this can lead to a sharp deterioration in the condition of the dog and even death. As part of the examination, the veterinarian will take a history, listen to the owner’s complaints and carry out all the necessary tests and manipulations to find out the root cause of this process.

As a therapeutic measure, special veterinary drugs are usually used that can normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Also, the pet is prescribed a special, balanced diet. Eating spicy, salty, and sweet foods, as well as overeating, is excluded.

Preventive Measures

The prevention of any pathological process is always much easier than the treatment of diseases in a dog. To avoid flatulence, you need to strictly follow the principles of proper keeping of animals in your home, in particular, competent feeding of your pet.

Do not overfeed the animal, the dog should eat on a schedule and a sufficient amount of balanced food. You can find the dosage and serving recommendations online or consult your veterinarian.

Timely medical examinations and vaccination of the animal in accordance with the approved schedule will make it possible to keep the dog’s health under control. Also, avoid using chemicals, poisons, and other hazardous substances in rooms where they can enter the body of your pet.
