Why Does Dachshund Hair Fall Out?

Dachshund dogs are smooth-haired, wire-haired, and long-haired. Depending on the type of hairline, a set of grooming procedures, grooming tools, and products for the coat and skin are selected for the pet. Even with proper care, the owner of the dog may experience the fact that dachshund hair loss. This may be due to an unhealthy diet, deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals in the dog’s body, various diseases, and allergies.

Dachshund Hair Care

The complexity and regularity of care procedures are determined individually. Long-haired and wire-haired dogs should be brushed regularly using combs with frequent and sparse teeth. It is often not necessary to bathe an adult dog, the optimal frequency is once every 3-4 months or before an exhibition. It is better not to bathe pets under the age of 6 months at all.

During seasonal molting (spring and fall), slight hair loss may occur.

But sometimes the main hair and undercoat climb much more than normal.

The main reasons why the dachshund’s wool climbs:

  • Allergic reactions to food, chemicals, or other allergens in the area (fleas and other ectoparasites). Allergies can be accompanied by itching and redness of the skin.
  • Hormonal disorders of endocrine etiology.
  • Avitaminosis.
  • The appearance of parasites – helminthic infestations, mite infestations (demodicosis).
  • Ringworm, acanthosis black (typical for dachshund dogs), seborrhea.
  • Oxygen deficiency. Miniature pets are often overly wrapped in the cold season. Due to the lack of oxygen, the condition of the skin and coat can deteriorate.

When keeping a dachshund, you also need to take into account the characteristics of this breed. The dog should not stand on its hind legs, jump from furniture to the floor – this can cause problems with the spine or limbs of the animal. Also, you can not lift the puppy by the scruff of the neck, stroke the ears.
