Breed Review: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (18 Pics)

#4 Despite the fact that many noble people after the death of the king ceased to consider the representatives of this breed as their favorites, there were no changes in the estate of the Duke of Marlborough.

For quite a long time, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was kept and bred in this place.

#5 At the beginning of the 20th century, namely in the 1920s – 1925s, these dogs practically disappeared.

There were so few of them that when one enthusiast named Eldridge wanted to recreate the breed, he simply could not find a single individual. He looked for pets at Crufts dog shows and private owners, and then, with the support of the English Kennel Club, offered 25 guineas (pounds sterling) to whoever would provide him with a toy spaniel.

#6 The amount is actually enormous for those times.

The guinea was divided into shillings, and shillings into pennies, an ordinary worker could receive one pound sterling a month. The type of dog, which was during the reign of Charles II, was chosen as a standard. Fortunately, there are many paintings and statuettes of spaniels left. Eldridge was given the dog by a woman named Mostyn Walker in 1928.
