The Welsh Corgi Cardigan is one of two related breeds of Welsh dogs – the Welsh Corgi Pembroke and the Welsh Corgi Cardigan. There are several versions regarding the origin of these two oldest breeds. According to one, the breed was introduced to Wales by the Celts. According to the other, they come from the Swedish Lapphund, which was crossed with local Welsh herding dogs. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a herding dog that is used for pasture and grazing.
