Dogs, even those belonging to famous people, can quite often become heroes for a completely different reason. Four-legged pets unexpectedly appear on the set of films or attract the attention of others with their incredible actions, covered in the media. Stories are familiar and such cases when our four-legged friends became famous on their own, without the participation of their masters and, even after many years, their names are still associated with the majority of their actions. We present you with a list of the 5 most famous dogs in history:

• Laika – this dog became known to the world on November 3, 1957, when it was placed in the capsule of the Soviet satellite “Sputnik 2”, in which it was delivered to Earth orbit. Laika, found on the streets of Moscow, became the first animal to travel into space. Unfortunately, her story ends tragically – the dog died due to overheating within a few hours after the start.
• Fala – This Scottish Terrier has served for many years one of the most influential people of his time, the President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. This dog has witnessed key political decisions that have left their mark on history. And not surprisingly, because Fala became part of the famous monument erected in honor of President Roosevelt. You can see him in Washington.
• The Giant is the fictional nickname of a cute Chihuahua dog who played a role in two episodes of the legendary comedy Legally Blonde. Some argue that it was thanks to the film that the breed became so popular all over the world – it’s a pity that these dogs are more often associated with the vanity and stupidity of their owners.
• Barry is the most famous rescue dog, who was a faithful helper in the St. Bernard Pass during the period 1800-1814 and, according to available data, saved at least 40 people from the debris of an avalanche. It was Barry who wore a vessel filled with warm tea around his neck, which was intended for lost tourists. This dog has formed the familiar image (see photo above) of a St. Bernard dog.
• Balto – this Siberian Husky dog ​​- is an idol for the people of the United States, especially those who live in Alaska. Balto became famous because in 1925 he delivered the vaccine to the city of Nome, which was engulfed in an epidemic and cut off from the world due to a blizzard raging in it. This brave dog was able to cope with the dire conditions and eventually make it to its destination with an emaciated and blinded driver who brought medicine with him. A monument was erected in honor of Balto.

These dogs became known all over the world, although they did not strive for this at all, they just helped people and were next to them when they were needed. Dogs are ready to help people in everything and, as all of the above proves, not at all for the sake of fame, but simply because of love.
