The work that these dogs have long performed – grazing livestock – required a developed intellect and courage. Despite their small stature, Welsh Corgi is full of dignity and does not tolerate indulgence. But they will not work as guards or defenders – they are completely devoid of aggression. However, they are wary of outsiders and can act desperately in an extreme situation.
Despite the working origin, the Welsh Corgi does not require serious physical activity. Although they will not refuse to walk, transport, or active games.
When the puppy is small, it is best not to introduce him to adult dogs. Start by talking to peers.
The nature of the Welsh Corgi leads to the fact that these dogs are very attached to all family members, including children. They also get along well with other animals – if you take the trouble to introduce them and give them time to get used to each other. If a representative of the breed enters a house where other pets have already settled down, there are usually no problems. If another animal comes to an adult corgi, it may take time for the dog to adapt to the changed conditions.
Welsh Corgi, due to their nature, do not like monotony and boredom, so classes should be interspersed with games.
The main motivation should be an encouragement. To earn praise, the breed representative will be willing to do a lot. But it is not worth giving out a treat for every command execution – this way you will get a dog that will not take a step without a treat.
Welsh Corgi is distinguished by restraint, developed intuition, and the ability to deeply analyze what is happening. In childhood, they are playful and active, but by the year they become sedate. However, an adult dog will not refuse to play.
A well-mannered, trained corgi is a great companion: loyal, smart, and comfortable in keeping.
Welsh Corgi and Children
Welsh corgi can be good pets for families, including those with small children, for whom dogs sometimes play the role of a nanny.
However, all this is true only if you properly educate and train the dog. Otherwise, welsh corgi games with children can get quite tough.
Representatives of the breed are ready to endure many children’s pranks, but the shepherd’s instincts sometimes take over, and the dog lightly grabs the child by the legs. You can wean yourself from such a habit if you do it at puppyhood.
You will need to explain to your child that it is necessary to treat a four-legged friend carefully and gently. Watch the mood of the animal, prevent possible conflicts in the bud. Do not let your child disturb your pet while it is sleeping or eating. Do not leave your dog and child unattended.
