Shar Pei: Sizes

According to one theory, the Shar-Pei used to be much larger than their descendants today. This is explained by the fact that dogs were used for fighting and hunting. Modern representatives of the breed are more related to the decorative class, from which they were crushed. On the other hand, the reduction in size may be due to the fact that at one time the breed had to be restored. For breeding, dogs that were close in the genus were used, but still not Shar-Pei. So what are the parameters of today’s sandy-skinned dogs?

Shar Pei Puppy Parameters

Newborn representatives of the Shar-Pei breed usually weigh from 400 to 500 g. Growth at the same time ranges from 17-18 cm in length. If you measure the baby a month later after he is born, the scales will show 2.5 kg, and the centimeter ruler will show the number 25-26. By the age of three months, the puppy will already weigh about 10 kg, while the height will be 30-34 cm.

Half-year-old Shar-Pei can weigh about 18 kg, height – 43–47 cm. Representatives of this ancient breed reach the parameters of an adult dog by the year.

Shar-Pei can stop growing at either 12 or 15 months. Even if they stop gaining in growth, the development of muscles and mass gain will continue.

Important! How the little pet will develop depends largely on how his mother’s pregnancy proceeded. Puppies from multiple litters are usually weaker and smaller.

Adult Shar-Pei: Height and Weight

Adults of both genders according to the standard of their appearance, usually have the same height limits. Usually, it fluctuates between 46 and 51 cm. That is why females are so difficult to distinguish from males. As for body weight, there is a difference. So, girls usually weigh from 18 to 25 kg, males – from 25 to 30 kg.

Important! In males, weight may increase during periods of intense muscle gain. Females get heavier during pregnancy.

Weight gain and height gain in these dogs are usually influenced by the following factors:

Genetics. It is important to pay attention to the pedigree here.

The quality of raising puppies. If the breeder does not pay attention to his wards, they will not differ in health and large dimensions.

Diet. For a dog to be healthy, beautiful, and large in height and weight, it needs to be properly fed.

Physical exercise. Without development in this area, any dog will not be able to demonstrate potential.

Diseases and injuries. Puppy-borne infectious and viral diseases can have a negative impact on the weight and height of the dog.

The owner needs to monitor what he eats and how much time the pet spends in the fresh air. Do not forget about veterinary supervision and vaccination.
